A Taste of SuperClubs plus

Today we had a taste of SuperClubs plus.
SuperClubs is great for teaching about cybersafety and being safe online. They also learn new ICT skills along the way.
The students get to create their own homepages and communicate with their friends via email on an enclosed and monitored system. They can even communicate safely with students from other countries.
We had a lot of fun today - thank you very much for teaching us Mrs Campbell.
(judging by the smiles and noise a whole lot of fun)

Reminder: Don't forget your signed permission notice if you want your password for the holidays.

Today we had an in school eLearning conference where our senior students from room 7 and 8 taught our junior students some new skills. The students got to try four different activities.
They learnt about making music on the iPads, using iMovie, taking photographs and using programs like Comic Life, Kidspiration, and Kidpix.

Make Your Own Thermometer

Today in Room 1 we made and tested a simple thermometer. It was a simple science experiment that was easy to follow (and easy to copy at home). The students' task is to write the instructions as the assessment activity for the writing we have been doing this term.

Junior Transport Trip

Today the Junior Syndicate travelled into Wellington to look at and experience all the different types of transport.
We travelled by bus...
by train...
and by cable car.
Some students got  to help drive the cable car or ring the bell (lots of times!!).
Sometimes the weather wasn't too great but we still had fun.
We saw air transport.
We saw water transport.
We saw a lot of different types of land transport.
We were lucky that the Wellington Train Station was having its 75th birthday and some of us got balloons.
We also got to see a steam train leave the station. It made lots of smoke and steam. Its whistle was very loud and made quite a few people jump.

Macro Photography

Last week we tried using the Macro function on the camera. The macro function usually has a flower symbol like this.
Macro lets you get very close to something and still be able to focus. The advantage of this is that you can take close up photographs of small objects and make them seem larger than life.

Photoblog

I have added a photoblog to our tabs. It is a place where our students can take photos of our classroom in action. It means you can see what goes on in our class and school on a daily basis.

Take a look and come back to visit regularly as we will keep updating it.

Himatangi Beach

I have added a 'tab' on the line under the blog title that will take you to some writing about the trip to Himatangi Beach that some of the students took with their families over Queen's Birthday weekend.  You can use the 'home' button to return to the blog.
I still have two stories to add in but would appreciate some more, in any way you want to do it - handwritten, emailed, fotobabble.
Maybe one or two photos as well.

Like a Giraffe

The last angle we learnt about is 'like a giraffe'. That means looking down on the thing we are taking a photograph of. Sometimes this means we have to get ourselves up high.

Samoan Independence Day

In 1962 Samoa (or Western Samoa as it was called) became an independent state or country. Independence means that Samoa became independent of New Zealand and could elect their own government and make their own laws. This year is their 50th anniversary of Independence.
We created a mural outside our class as a celebration.
