Loud Shirt Day

Friday was Loud Shirt Day which raises money for The Hearing House and the Southern Cochlear Implant Programmme. They help deaf children learn to talk and hear like their friends. I think cochlear implants are amazing.
Here is Room 1 with their loud shirts on.
Can you match the colours to the people?

Cricket

Last week we had some cricket training with Chris from Wellington Cricket. Unfortunately the weather meant we were confined to the hall. We could only practice throwing, fielding, bowling and running (no batting).

However it was all action as the photos show. There was plenty of moving and developing our cricket skills.
Lining up a throw.
Running.

Netball Practice

Some people had so much fun on Pyjama Day they didn't even change for netball practice.
Thanks to Sam for the photo.

A Taste of SuperClubs plus

Today we had a taste of SuperClubs plus.
SuperClubs is great for teaching about cybersafety and being safe online. They also learn new ICT skills along the way.
The students get to create their own homepages and communicate with their friends via email on an enclosed and monitored system. They can even communicate safely with students from other countries.
We had a lot of fun today - thank you very much for teaching us Mrs Campbell.
(judging by the smiles and noise a whole lot of fun)

Reminder: Don't forget your signed permission notice if you want your password for the holidays.

Paper Helicopters

Today we had fun making paper helicopters. We were following instructions to carefully to create our helicopters. Here we are flying them.
Our next step is to write out the instructions to explain how to make a paper helicopter.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the Room 1 mothers (and any other mothers who drop by our blog).

I hope you liked your cards, simile poems and flowers. We had a lot of fun making them.

I certainly had a lot of enjoyment helping out with some of the more unusual similes :-)

Mr Haste

moveMprove

On Friday we had our first moveMprove lesson of the term. I was pleased to see how much the students have remembered from last year.
There are two main areas or skill sets that are the main focus of these lessons. The first is maintaining balance and landings The second is the students being aware of their body's movements and of the space around them.

The beam
Minitramp
Mat exercises
Large ball skills
High bar
Beam
Balloonie
Whole class movement

Mr Haste has been practicing his photo skill as well, and using the technique we have learnt this week. Can you tell which photos were taken like a mouse?

Like a Mouse

We have started exploring taking photographs from different angles to make our images more interesting.

The first angle we tried is taking a photo like a mouse. A mouse is close to the ground, looking along and slightly up. Here are some great examples from our work.

Football

Last week we had football training. Symon and Martin came from the Lower Hutt Football Club to teach us some new skills. We learnt to dribble and control the ball.
Some days we were on the court and some days in the hall, we even made it on to the grass on the last day.

Normandale Stars

On Saturday the Normandale Stars had their first netball game ever. We played against Boulcott and they won 5-0.
It was hard because it was our first game and they were good at getting in front of us and putting their hands up. We learnt it was easier to keep your hands low and then put them up to catch the  ball. Their uniforms were quite like ours so it was tricky and sometimes we didn't know who to pass to.
Lara was our player of the day because she put lots of effort and was always moving.
